If you’re looking to improve your gas mileage and mileage in the Dalton area, most people have considered an electric car. But are electric cars really better for the environment, or is it just a socially accepted myth? If you have never driven a hybrid or an electric car before, you might have a lot of questions, but ultimately, we are here to reassure you that there are plenty of environmental benefits of electric cars.

Welborn Chevrolet of Rome has the EV and hybrid car definition, environmental benefits, and more in the guide below.

EV and Hybrid Car Definition

So, what is a hybrid car, and what is an EV?

Both hybrids and EVs are powered by an electric motor, but hybrid cars have a traditional engine under the hood. The electric motor and gas-powered motor works together to improve gas mileage. Electric vehicles are solely powered by electricity, often enjoying powerhouse performance specs, near-instantaneous torque, and impressive acceleration.

Chevy currently offers two fully-electric vehicles—the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV—with more coming down the line, including the first-ever Chevy Silverado EV.

EVs, Hybrids, & the Environment

EVs and hybrids bring a lot of measurable benefits, like improved gas mileage and performance specs. They also come with financial benefits including up to $7,500 in federal tax credits. But are electric cars better for the environment?

People haven fallen on both sides of the issue, where most say that EVs are better for the environment thanks to there being no internal combustion engines, where some say there is more CO2 emissions thanks to coal and natural gas. Let’s break down what the Environmental Protection Agency has to say on the matter.

First of all, even accounting for electricity sources like natural gas and coal, EVs still produce significantly less greenhouse gases. More and more EVs rely on renewable sources such as wind and solar power to make their carbon footprint smaller.

It’s true that it creates more carbon pollution to produce an electric vehicle than a gasoline-powered vehicle, because it takes a lot of extra energy to produce an EV’s battery. However, an EV produces zero tailpipe emissions due to the lack of engine, meaning that the environmental benefits of electric cars outweigh the cons.
